How to Make Your Festive Fall Porch Pot Out Of A Pumpkin Lantern

When your family or any special guests arrive at your home, the first impression of your house is of your porch and front door. So, why not wow them this fall and Halloween season with some creations of your own? This fun craft is a porch pot, lantern, and dried natural arrangement all in one! And we are giving you options.

Make one or the other, or even both! First, we have a version for Autumn to cozy up your porch as the air gets crisp and leaves begin to change. The second version gives your stoop a haunting presence as Halloween sets in. So, let's get started!

Gather these supplies:

Additional Supplies:

  • Floral Foam

  • Ribbon

  • Scissors

  • Marker

  • Knife

  • Lazy Susan

  1. Cut and Wrap Floral Foam with Ribbon

You'll want to begin by turning your porch pumpkin upside down on the floral foam. Using a marker, trace along the top opening of the lantern to ensure the foam will fit down on the top of it. Draw another circle inside of the first circle you traced so the handle of the propane tank can fit through. Grab your knife and carefully cut out what you outlined. It should look almost like a floral foam donut! Now wrap the circle foam with ribbon and slide it onto the top of the porch pumpkin, fitting snugly for the dried naturals to be inserted.

2. Arrange Dried Naturals into Foam

Begin arranging by establishing the base. We chose to use our Dried Mango Oak Leaves because they gave it a beautiful, fiery color. From there, we added our Dried Blackbeard Wheat to add texture. Finally, we wanted to add height and an eerie aesthetic. What better dried natural than our Spooky Sparkle Black Birch Branches! It makes it feel like this arrangement came straight from a haunted forest. Feel free to add any other dried natural elements to this arrangement to give it more color, texture, or volume. After all, this is your masterpiece!

And that's how a Pumpkin Porch Pot Lantern is made! Don't forget to slide a battery-operated candle into the lantern to watch the face light up at night when it gets dark! The great thing about this next one is that it's perfect as a porch decoration for before Halloween as traditional fall decor and after Halloween as you enter into Thanksgiving time.
