3 Quick Thrifted Pumpkin Upgrades, Gains You Fairy Godmother Status

We know there is still a lot of summer left to enjoy, but if you plan it right, you can be the first to snag unique fall finds at your local thrift store and get them prepared for their big debut come September. For example, we found a bag of mixed pumpkins ready to be bippity boppity booed into exquisite dried natural masterpieces fit for any fairy tale, front porch, or dining room at our local thrift store.

TO UPGRADE YOUR PUMPKINS, YOU WILL NEED

  • Bindle & Brass Oats

  • Bindle & Brass Wheat

  • foam spray

  • Paint (chosen colors)

  • Glue gun

  • scissors

Paint It:

Using some leftover acrylic paint from other projects we dry brushed the pumpkins to calm the bright orange and reduce any scratches. This also helped dents look like they were a part of the pumpkin instead of a blemish.

Put a Stem on It:

Using Gap Foam, we sprayed out swirly lines onto a garbage bag. The skinnier the lines you can make, the better, they can be easily molded and cut, but we found that it was best to get them as thin as possible. After they dried completely, we created small holes in the foam base and dry-fit them on the stems of the pumpkins. Remove them from the pumpkin and use acrylic paint in browns, greens, or creams. This was where we had some trial and error; the paint was having a hard time drying on its own, so we added in some quick dry glue, and that did the trick. They take about two coats to completely cover due to all the holes. When they dry, hot glue them onto the pumpkin stems, you can even bend and glue them to make them trail on the ground.

Pretty It Up:

Now make your pumpkins glorious with dried naturals. Using a hot glue gun affix wheat, oats, pampas grass, dried leaves, and even potpourri to make different designs to suit your style.
